When you work with me
you get a positive, playful, and empathetic collaborator who understands the needs of the production while advocating for the actors.
By facilitating communication and collaboration between actor consent and director vision, the impact of story-telling becomes sustainable for the production as a whole and felt by audiences.
As an Intimacy Director
My foundation and experience as an actor in the theatre industry gives me awareness of the ins and outs of a productions needs, busy rehearsal schedules, sustainability for actors by choreographing intimate scenes for repeatability, conscious of time management and interest to tell a great story.
My strengths lie in musical theatre, and it’s hard to get away from intimacy work when song and dance are the heightened fuel of MT story telling. Having an ID on a production to assist with crafting those moments, layering in musicality, collaborating with choreographers and fight directors can be complicated. Within those layers, intimacy is a strong representation of WHY audiences GO. To experience fantastical moments that take their breath away, the crescendo to the relationships that’s been building since Act 1 and when that moment arises, your audience and actors deserve a more crafted moment than the text we’re often given < inserts ‘they kiss’ before the curtain drops.
As an Intimacy Coordinator
I work side by side with a Director ensuring what the audience sees is believable while upholding actor consent, and boundaries to enhance and uplift creative choices to tell the story. I collaborate and communicate with all departments involved in intimate scenes for cohesive story telling, giving attention to and anticipating what the actors may need to do their best work in an environment where their vulnerability is given space and time and the production stays on time.
“I really appreciated that Britt Marie continued to check in, even after blocking and intimacy was set. Boundaries can shift…what was once comfortable can become uncomfortable or difficult to perform consistently. I really loved that she was always in our corner day in and at out, not only to set the intimacy in a professional and respectful manner, but to ensure that it could *continue* to work in a sustainable way throughout the run.”
Why you should hire an Intimacy Director or Coordinator for your next project?
Creative support and consent from your Actors to participate in the requested intimacy of the project, and protect autonomy to uphold individual boundaries within a show and on set for all involved.
Uphold anti-harrassment policies to protect the production, and liaison to all departments for support and focus to problem solve quickly.
An ID/IC is the puzzle piece of a production to link director vision to actor consent and create something bigger together with agency, accessibility, and vulnerability through clear communication with respect to each other and uplift the story we’re telling together to create the desired audience response.
I look forward to hearing about your next production and hopefully working with you.
